Provides emergency assistance with food, rent and utilities to qualified, indigent veterans and family members. Funding for rental and utility assistance is typically available at the beginning of the month. Sometimes other funding sources allow them to provide assistance all month long. Limited assistance with medical and other miscellaneous services is also available on a emergency need basis. Once a year they can help a veteran with their prescriptions. Also provides burial assistance for a veteran, their spouse, or a dependent child under the age of 18.

Eligibility

Must be a current resident of Pierce County. Must be indigent. Veteran must show an original copy of his or her discharge papers and proof of ID.

Provides limited financial assistance for rent, move-in costs, utilities and other essential needs; may have limited assistance for bus tickets. $100 max per request. Funds are sent directly to the landlord or utility company. Volunteers conduct an in-person interview to determine need. Participation in a local church-life group and finding Christian friends are encouraged through supportive conversations and/or written materials that are available but not required to receive help. Clients may receive assistance once every 12 months.

Permanent residents of the city of Shoreline ONLY (N of 145th St, S of 205th St) who can provide verification of need. Does not serve Lake Forest Park. Eviction or shut-off notice is NOT required. Does not give financial assistance for motel rent. All requests for aid are subject to the approval of the agency representative. Clients may receive assistance once every 12 months.

This fund may be disbursed to indigent veterans and their families or the families of those deceased in the amount not to exceed $800 per applicant per calendar year, not to exceed two years, unless the indigent veteran qualifies for additional funds. After one year of waiting, the veteran may reapply for further assistance with proof of eligibility. (Exceptions are burial and catastrophic expenses) Approval granted only for the following: 1. Past Due Rent or Mortgage 2. Past Due Utilities; electric, water or Natural Gas 3. Needed Food Items 4. Needed Fire Wood or Propane

Eligibility

Honorably discharged veteran or eligible family member of a veteran who meets the definition of veteran as defined by law. The county defines "indigent and suffering" to mean the current poverty level as defined by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Applicants must be a resident of the Mason County for at least ninety (90) days. Applicant must present proof of residency and income.

Can provide financial assistance for needs such as: - Rent - Utilities - Child care - Car repair Refers callers to their local post, who then contacts the servicemember or family to see how assistance can be provided locally. Assists the family in applying for Temporary Financial Assistance if minor children are in the home.

Eligibility

Active duty military and their immediate family OR Any veteran possessing an up-to-date membership in the American Legion. No child is considered eligible for Temporary Financial Assistance until a complete investigation is conducted at the post or department level. A legitimate family need is determined; and all other available assistance resources have been utilized or exhausted.
